Guest: Michael Lim

We had a special Guest Speaker this morning.

Peter Sewakiryanga is a world recognized humanitarian in the fight against both child sacrifice and human trafficking. He started and is the director of a rehabilitation center in Uganda for survivors of child sacrifice, Kyampisi Childcare Ministries. KCM is on call when a child goes missing and witchcraft is suspected. Because of the entrenched fear of witch doctors in Uganda, most police will not pursue them. Peter will, and he does. He has rescued children being held for rituals and children who have been mutilated in rituals. He has also aided the police in searches with far worse outcomes.

In 2017, Peter was called to Zurich, Switzerland to speak as a worldwide expert on the problem of child sacrifice, and again in 2019 at the PAN African UN Conference in Ethiopia. He works on the international stage to develop policies and responses to this problem. You can see more about Peter and his work here:

While here in the US, Peter is accompanying a young man named Robert for an upcoming surgery with the hope that he will regain the ability to walk and rehab after a spinal injury and mutilation that occurred in Uganda. This boy is a child survivor of an attempted sacrifice. Sarah will purchase a get-well card and bring it for the group to sign and send to him. In addition to the card, the entire group signed a petition to support the work KCM does and show our support of their mission. Thanks to Alex for introducing us to Peter, his mission and the opportunity to help if we are able.

Location: CL Bank & Trust

Attendees: Sarah, Josh, Mike, Dr. Jeff, Zach, Renee, Ken, Alan
Guest: Phil (Chamber President)

Went around the horn with introductions, business represented, and who is an ideal referral

Referral share- Josh referred his wife to Zach for updates on her computer

Sarah referred brother to Sam Milei, and Mike also referred someone to Sam as well

Lots of referrals will be heading Renee's way with Valentine's Day on the horizon!

EXPO - March - Still spots available

Holiday party January 23rd at 6pm at Renee's house

Corporate America ribbon cutting and following Tuesday 1/21 at Family Chiropractic at 4pm
January 30th (Thursday) Ribbon Cutting at Holiday INN at 4pm
National Day today is dress up your pet day, hot pastrami day or national travel day and tomorrow is National HAT Day

Ken shared that there is open office space at his office, and he is happy to hook you up if you or anyone you know is looking for
office space

Discussed possible off-site meetings once a month

Group goals - three areas for us to focus on:

- Relationships - social engagements to encourage bonds, trust, and better understand of a person, not just a colleague
- Networking - Continuing to commit to making referrals - attending the afterhours events - changing our location may
be a good idea but changing the time to mid-day probably won't work. Maybe once a quarter offer an afterhours event offsite
NOT on a Tuesday.
- Member Host/Breakfast Meeting - Professional Development - Selecting subject matter and experts

2019 B2B meeting and history/review:
Educational series - topics presented:
- Neuroplasticity - Retired Military representative spoke very effectively
- Sarah Victory - Author who came to present on Goal Setting and how to achieve your goals, Josh's take
away was writing out a good referral and peeling the onion back from just a general referral
- Bobbi Baene came in to talk about social Media, good presentation
- Sam presented on the new 2020 (marijuana) laws and how those may affect our small businesses
- Louis Sharp - Came to talk about leadership and how I can be a better leader
- Jared spoke about how video can enhance website and social media presence
- Last year, events were successful but we had little outside attendance
- Oktoberfest vey successful
- Chamber Golf Outing Hole Sponsorhip - fun but not very productive
- Bringing in tremendous experience and expertise is one way we can bring all 3 of our goals to the front of the group

What is our identity for 2020? We discussed what some of the other groups do and what makes us different - Some are more
BNI-style, etc.
- Membership/group development - Round out the group with variety and diverse areas of expertise

Phil is recreating and reorganizing the Chamber in several ways, such as changing the fiscal year, and changing the "look and feel" of the annual
dinner - and gaining feedback from groups and members, focus on celebration, not so much just a keynote speaker.
